Yemeni President praises UAE's Effective Role in supporting  Development Efforts in Yemen

On behalf of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, President of the Republic of Yemen, H.H. Abdel Karim Al Arhabi, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Minister of Planning & International Cooperation extended thanks and appreciation to the great support that was and is provided by the United Arab Emirates to its sister state of the Republic of Yemen, which support embodies the deep brotherhood spirit amongst the two sister countries.

This came at the end of the visit paid by a delegation from the UAE to Yemen, upon the directions of H.H. Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Deputy Chairman of Emirates Identity Authority, during the period from 10-13 of the current January. The visit was conducted for discussing the arrangements of executing the smart card and electronic passport project in the Republic of Yemen, which project will benefit from the accumulative Emirati experience in this field.

Moreover, the Yemeni side lauded the effective role of the UAE in supporting development efforts in the Republic of Yemen considering this project an important and vital one that will make a qualitative leap in the work of the Department of Civil Status and Civil Registration via the establishment of an extensive database for civil registration which will be an important component for success of the Yemeni development plans.

H.E. Eng. Nasser Mohamed Matar Al Mazrouei, Executive Director for Communications & Information Systems, head of the delegation provided, during discussions between the Emirati and Yemeni sides, a presentation on the successful Emirati experience in the field of using smart card. In addition, he addressed the lessons to be learned from these experiences, challenges facing the project and ways to overcome the same. He reviewed also the technical and technological aspects of the project, its priorities and the numerous benefits of smart card in various fields headed by security followed by economic, health and educational fields.

The Yemeni part participating in the discussions and meetings was represented by H.E. Abdel Karim Al Arhabi, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Minister of Planning & International Cooperation, Major General Mutahir Rashad Al-Masri, Minister of Interior, Eng. Kamal Al Jabri, Minister of Communications, Brigadier General Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh, Commander of the Republican Guards and Special Forces, General Doc. Reyad Al Qurashi, Undersecretary of Yemeni Ministry of Interior for Finance and Administration, and Brigadier Mohamed Al Amodi, Head of the Department of Civil Status and Civil Registration; while the Emirati side was represented by Major Khaled Nasr Al Taaei and Captain Mohamed Abdullah Rabeea Al Eriani from the Ministry of Interior and Eng. Rashed Mohamed Al Kaabi from Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
